We’ve put together a list of the Top 3 Trail Runs in Cape Town.

The Pipe Track

One of the most popular routes for trail running is the Pipe Track. Its location near the City Bowl makes it a favourite among casual hikers, but it’s also a great choice for trail runners looking for a quick after-work jog. The trail starts just off Kloof Nek, near the entrance to the Table Mountain Cableway, and follows a water pipeline along the top of Camps Bay, offering breathtaking views of the beaches below and the imposing mountain above.
This there-and-back trail is approximately 6 km to Corridor Ravine. While it’s generally flat and features smooth gravel, some rocky sections can present a good challenge for trail runners of any experience level. Since the trail is quite exposed, it's best to run early in the morning or late in the afternoon

Constantia Green Belt

Nestled in suburban Constantia, the Constantia Green Belt is a beloved circular route that starts on Alphen Drive (opposite Ave Le Sueur) and weaves through various trails, including the Diepriver path and the Contour Path, before descending through Cecelia Forest. This 9 km trail predominantly features gravel paths and forest trails, offering a moderate challenge with an elevation gain of about 300 m (1,000 ft). The lush greenery attracts locals, who often take their dogs and kids for walks in the morning and afternoon. Keep an eye out for horse riders who also share parts of the trail.

Platteklip Gorge

For those in search of a genuine challenge, the Platteklip Gorge trail is a significantly tougher alternative to the Pipe Track and offers the most direct route to the top of Table Mountain. The trail starts on Tafelberg Road, about two kilometers from the cable car station, and winds its way up to just west of Maclear’s Beacon, the highest point on the mountain. Though it’s a relatively short 2.5 km , it features a steep ascent, climbing approximately 600 m (2,000 ft), making it best suited for fit individuals.
Depending on your fitness level, the round trip can take between 1.5 and two hours—just be sure to stop along the way to take in the breathtaking views of Cape Town City Bowl and Table Bay below. This trail is also part of the annual Three Peaks and Batrun trail races.
